5 Major Benefits of Trees

5 Major Benefits of Trees | The Bam&Boo Blog | Bam&Boo Bamboo Toothbrush

We all know trees are extremely important for the survival of the human species and the planet as a whole. Still it is quite an overwhelming topic. Why are trees vital, after all? We’ll give you 5 major benefits.

1. CLEAN THE AIR

By absorbing a third of global emissions every year, the world’s forests help clean the air we breathe. Theyabsorb harmful pollutant gases (like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides) by storing them on the leaves and barkwhile releasingthe much-needed oxygen for us to breathe.

2. FILTER THE WATER

Trees pull water from the ground and release it into the atmosphere as vapor through pores in their leaves in a process called transpiration, which can drive temperatures and rainfall. This process prevents harmful waterslide erosion and reduces the risk of over-saturation and flooding

3. SUPPORT WILDLIFE

Trees provide habitat, food and protection to plants and animals, increasing urban biodiversity. Asingle tree can be home to hundreds of species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants. Impressive and lovely, right?

4. HEAL

Spending time near trees improves physical and mental health by boosting mood and immune system, while decreasing blood pressure, stress and anxiety. Trees really do have amazing healing powers.

5. FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE

As they grow, trees are the ultimate carbon capture and storage machines. As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen, store carbon dioxide(one of the main drivers for global heating), stabilise the soil and give life to the world's wildlife.

1.5 million

This is the average number of hectares of additional woodland
needed to help reach net zero carbon on UK only.

You see, trees provide so many benefits to us, every day. So how can you have an impact? Short and simple: Plant a Tree! This easy goal will cause a huge and positive impact on our lives and on Planet Earth.

One tree a day keeps climate change away ;)

And be reminded that nowadays there are many organisations that can help you. We gladly share some projects that we follow and support:

SeaTrees by Sustainable Surf - one of the most incredible initiatives we came across. With SeaTrees you are not only planting a tree, you are planting a Mangrove.

For every mangrove you plant here’s the outcome:

  • Sustainable employment for two villages on Biak Island, Indonesia
  • Protection of Biak Island from storm -surges and sea-level rise
  • Creates critical habitat for threatened species
  • Amazing carbon sequester - mangrove forests are 5x more effective at storing carbon than tropical forests.

One Tree Planted - dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. All-in-one by planting trees!

Plantar Uma Árvore - a volunteer program dedicated to the promotion and conservation of the Portuguese native forest and indigenous species. So it is not just about planting trees. It aims for biodiversity, conservation, and adaptation to climate change.

Planting a tree has never been easier. We sincerely hope you bring this topic into your family and friends conversations and spread the love for trees.
